The young songwriters and players will be divided into groups of 4 to 6 to write, register, and record an original song to be be performed at the BBQ Concert along with 1 or 2 covers.  Each child will go home with a T-shirt with their new Band logo and name (designed by them), a CD of their new song and the experience of creating a piece of art with others.  Half hour yoga and meditation class for kids each morning will be given for kids from both camps to attend.  It is a great way to start their day and create an atmosphere of focus and relaxation.  Snacks will consist of organic food.  Kids with special dietary needs will be taken into consideration.

Week One:
Forming a group Co-writing an original song with a counselor
Registering the song with SESAC, ASCAP or BMI
Naming their band and designing their logo for their T-shirt

Week Two:
*Studio
Pre-production of song
Recording of song in the studio
Mixing and mastering the song
Rehearsing for the Concert
Depending on the group of kids ability level, instrumentation, etc., counselors will fill in whenever necessary.
Vocals may be sung by more than one singer and they will go home
with their version of the song
We are very careful to try and strike a balance between
intervening with and allowing the kids the chance to play and write their own song. It's tricky, but when it works there are smiles all around.

Daily sprinkler play in the afternoons to cool down will offer the kids a chance to go wild and socialize with the group from the Equestrian side of the academy.  Young rockers will have the option to cross over to the Horse Camp and take a riding lesson while the young equestrians will be given the opportunity to take a music lesson, however, this will not be a regular part of the experience for all of the kids and will need to be arranged and scheduled in advance.

A BBQ, Mini Concert, Horsemanship Ribbon Ceremony and Exhibition on the Saturday following the final Friday of the Academy will give all of the kids an opportunity to show each other and the parents what they have learned at Rockin' Horse Academy.  This is an opportunity for parents to film their child's accomplishments and for everyone to leave with a sense of community.
